Goldberg Segalla Welcomes Workers’ Compensation Addition to Princeton Group

Civil litigation firm Goldberg Segalla has welcomed Amanda Haasz to the firm’s workers’ compensation group in Princeton, NJ.

There, Haasz will focus on defense and counsel of employers, insurance carriers and TPAs specific to the workers’ compensation industry.

Her role will include involvement in the entire claims process, from initial evaluation through resolution.

Haasz has a background representing clients in various workers’ comp matters, including  settlements, trials and oral arguments.

John Ruser’s Successor Takes the Reins at WCRI

Ramona Tanabe, CEO, WCRI

Since 2015, John Ruser has acted as the Workers’ Compensation Research Institute’s (WCRI’s) CEO. But effective May 1, Ramona Tanabe has assumed the position.

“I thank John for his outstanding leadership these past eight years, for taking our research and its impact to the next level, and for guiding us through the pandemic,” said Tanabe, in a press release.

“I would also like to thank the WCRI Board of Directors for their faith in me. I look forward to leading my talented and hard-working colleagues in our continuing mission to improve the workers’ compensation system for all stakeholders by providing trusted, objective research and analysis.”

Tanabe has held a number of key leadership roles within WCRI, leading its flagship line of core benchmarking studies, designing and conducting studies on workplace health policy and more.

Ruser will remain at WCRI for now to advise Tanabe and to ensure a smooth transition.

“I have been lucky to have spent the last eight years of my 40-year professional career working with Ramona and the fabulous team at WCRI,” said Ruser.

“While I plan to stay involved in the industry, I look forward to scaling back a little. In Ramona’s seasoned hands, I know the future is bright for WCRI.”

Account Manager Selected at RT Specialty

Rachael Neary was promoted to account manager, Environmental and Construction Professional Practice, RT Specialty

Rachael Neary was promoted to account manager, Environmental and Construction Professional (ECP) Practice, at RT Specialty.

Neary will be responsible for assisting the development of risk management programs designed to protect property owners, developers and shareholders from devastating pollution liability and environmental casualty exposures.

“Rachael is an exceptionally hard worker who rapidly navigated the many nuances within this incredibly complex industry,” said Kimberly Vincent, a consultant at RT.

“This was achieved while sharing her in-depth industry knowledge with our entire team and supporting the overall growth of our pollution legal liability and environmental casualty book of business through her constant outreach with RT ECP’s vast network of agents, brokers and their clients.”

Before joining RT in 2021, Neary served as an underwriter’s assistant at Bass Underwriters.

Newfront CEO and Cofounder Recognized as 40 Under 40

Spike Lipkin, CEO and cofounder, Newfront

Spike Lipkin, CEO and cofounder of Newfront, has been named to the 2023 San Francisco Business Times 40 Under 40 list.

The publication recognized 40 business leaders under the age of 40 for their significant contributions to the Bay Area community, as well as to their company.

“This honor is really a recognition of our team,” said Lipkin. “I just have the privilege of representing them.”

Lipkin started Newfront with the goal of transforming the antiquated insurance industry. The business has grown since then, including becoming a top 40 broker in 2022, based on revenue, and hiring more than 250 employees.

General Counsel Added to Canal Insurance Company’s Team

Andrew Colvin, vice president, general counsel & corporate secretary, Canal Insurance Company

Andrew Colvin has been hired as vice president, general counsel & corporate secretary, for Canal Insurance Company.

Colvin assumed the role effective April 17.

Prior to this, Colvin acted as corporate secretary & director of legal affairs for Gildan Activewear Inc. He also served as director of legal services for JHM Hotels and as an associate attorney for Nexsen Pruet.

“Andrew represents a critical addition to the Canal senior team as general counsel. The strength of his background and experience, and his collaborative nature are an ideal fit for us as we embrace new strategic opportunities for the enterprise,” said Paul Brocklebank, president and CEO, Canal. &
